Karen Dent – Therapist LSMW
Karen works with adolescents, young adults, and parents navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, school difficulties, and relationship conflicts. She supports teens as they explore independence, identity, and balance, while also fostering resilience. Karen understands how overwhelming it can feel for parents who may be isolated or uncertain about how best to support their child. Using a person-centered and trauma-sensitive approach, Karen integrates DBT skills with a strengths-based perspective to create a safe, supportive space where clients can build coping tools, develop stronger relationships, and clarify what matters most to them. Her experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings—leading DBT groups and supporting families through transitions—along with her nursing background, allows her to view the whole person and the interconnectedness of emotional, physical, and social well-being. Karen graduated with her Masters in Social Work. Karen offers a complimentary consultation and welcomes the opportunity to walk alongside clients as they work toward balance, resilience, and stronger connections.

Therapy Specialities
Family Therapy
For each family member at-risk, there is a larger family system in place. If the individual is treated while the family is not, the cycle of dysfunction may continue. Many concerns can be addressed through family therapy, including grief & loss, life adjustments, behavioral or school issues, conflict resolution, communication, and mental and physical illness.
Couples Therapy
The right time to come to couples counseling is – when you decide you want to improve your relationship. In couples therapy, the relationship is the client. The therapist consults with the couple to define the problems they want to address and identify desired treatment outcomes. The therapist will ask each partner about their history with and without the other partner in the room.
Teen counseling
Teens who may be experiencing maladaptive, unsafe and unhealthy coping, patterns of unstable relationships, impulsive and possibly risky behaviors, and emotional upheaval will benefit from this group by developing mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills.
