Karen Dent – Therapist LMSW
Karen provides therapy to people of all ages who are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure about what comes next. Many of the adults she supports are navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or mid-life transitions and want a space to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with themselves. She also works with teens who are trying to make sense of big emotions, identity, and growing independence, as well as parents who may feel uncertain about how to best support their child.
Karen’s approach is warm, collaborative, and trauma sensitive. She blends CBT with practical tools from DBT with a strengths-based perspective, creating a calm and supportive space where clients feel heard and understood. Her experience, along with her nursing background, allows her to view the whole person and recognize the connection between emotional, physical, and social well-being. Karen offers a complimentary consultation and welcomes the opportunity to walk alongside clients as they work toward balance and resilience.
CREDENTIALS:
- Licensed Master of Social Work
Therapy Specialities
Family Therapy
For each family member at-risk, there is a larger family system in place. If the individual is treated while the family is not, the cycle of dysfunction may continue. Many concerns can be addressed through family therapy, including grief & loss, life adjustments, behavioral or school issues, conflict resolution, communication, and mental and physical illness.
Couples Therapy
The right time to come to couples counseling is – when you decide you want to improve your relationship. In couples therapy, the relationship is the client. The therapist consults with the couple to define the problems they want to address and identify desired treatment outcomes. The therapist will ask each partner about their history with and without the other partner in the room.
Teen counseling
Teens who may be experiencing maladaptive, unsafe and unhealthy coping, patterns of unstable relationships, impulsive and possibly risky behaviors, and emotional upheaval will benefit from this group by developing mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills.
